The role

Joining us as a Production Charge Hand (Welding Cell) is an exciting opportunity to join our growing Operations team. You will supervise staff and manufacturing operations as directed by the Welding Cell Team Leader, primarily on the late shift.

Included within this will be a level of hands-on work.

Your normal hours of work will be 37½ per week on our ‘late’ shift, i.e.

Monday – Wednesday 1.30 pm – 11.30 pm

Thursday 1.30 pm – 11.00 pm.

Who you will interact with

  • Directly responsible to the Welding Cell Team Leader
  • Secondary responsibility to the Production Manager
  • Directly supervising the Production Personnel (late shift)
  • Staff relations: all other staff

What you will need to succeed

Specific essential skills

  • Recognised Coded Welder qualifications.
  • Experienced in working at a supervisory level in an engineering-focussed SME (project) organisation.
  • Capable of creating a step-change improvement in performance with a priority on delivering quality to customers.
  • Experienced in supervising the build-to-customer order environment.
  • Equipped to provide structure and support for problem-solving and production quality improvement.
  • Value the importance of the Quality Management System and ensure the implementation of procedures and processes.
  • Be a strong communicator who must be able to generate factual reports.
  • Be systematic in planning, organising, and implementing the basic daily, weekly, and monthly routines.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development.

Secondary

  • Participate in any other activity for the Company, including outside duties, within the limits of your personal skill and expertise, when required.

Duties

  • Organise and supervise the production personnel as directed by the Welding Cell Team Leader.
  • Supervise the welding cell late shift team with the ability to optimise team performance and development.
  • Communicate through progress updates to the oncoming shift, reference workload achieved, and challenges faced.
  • Ensure all work is carried out based on the Quality Control Plan and travellers and completed/signed by the correct personnel before proceeding to the next stage.
  • Make sure all quality hold points are observed and that the Quality department conducts relevant inspections.
  • Drive a quality performance culture to ensure that products and services exceed our customers’ expectations.
  • Ensure workmanship is to the required standard.
  • Actively comply with, always promote and lead Health & Safety within the workshop areas in line with company policy, always ensuring a safe working environment with assistance from the Compliance Officer.
  • Ensure the requirements of the manufacturing schedule but not at the detriment of quality, cost and on-time delivery.
  • Utilise resources effectively to maximise throughput and achieve build times.
  • Support the Management Team in producing capacity plans to ensure manufacturing and delivery targets are met.
  • Carry out any relevant administrative tasks.
  • Be systematic in planning, organising and implementing the basic daily, weekly and monthly routines.
  • Assist in any other production area/duty when required.
  • Take on any reasonable other activities or assigned tasks delegated by senior management.

Computers and relevant software. Printers, photocopiers, scanners and other office equipment, as available. Production plant, machinery and equipment, as available.

The training and development needs of this position will be determined in consultation with the Production Manager and Welding Cell Team Leader.
