Jake Vincent – Success Story

Success stories don’t happen overnight — they’re built through learning, persistence, and the courage to step into new challenges.

This National Apprenticeship Week, we’re proud to spotlight the journey of an apprentice at Sterling Thermal Technology Ltd who has grown into a thriving Project Manager. Jake Vincent’s path reflects what apprenticeships are truly about: developing real-world skills, building resilience, and turning opportunity into long-term career progression.
From learning the fundamentals to leading complex projects, his story shows how investing in apprenticeships creates professionals who are ready to take ownership, deliver impact, and continue growing.

Here’s a closer look at his journey:

Q: What challenge are you most proud of overcoming, and what did it teach you?
A: Transitioning from a Field Service Engineer role into a fast-paced project management environment pushed me to adapt quickly while handling a heavy workload. With the support of line managers, I strengthened my organisation, communication, and decision-making skills. I learned that real growth happens outside your comfort zone — the right mindset makes even complex transitions achievable.

Q: Was there a project or responsibility that made you feel proud of how far you’ve come — and why?
A: Delivering a complex CACA project for a Middle East global OEM from start to finish was a major milestone. Coordinating suppliers, leading stakeholder meetings, and managing the full project lifecycle highlighted my growth in technical understanding, communication, and project ownership. Seeing it delivered successfully made the achievement especially rewarding.

Q: How has your confidence or skillset changed since starting your apprenticeship?
A: My apprenticeship has significantly boosted both my confidence and capability. Starting with the fundamentals, I’ve progressed to handling complex projects, strengthened my organisation and time management, and become more confident in decision-making, leading meetings, and communicating with stakeholders.

Q: Can you share a moment when you realised the impact your work was having?
A: While managing a key account, seeing the customer collaborate and negotiate solutions that benefited both sides demonstrated the trust we had built. It reinforced how effective communication and problem-solving can create real value and strengthen long-term partnerships.

Q: If an employer asked what makes apprentices a great investment, what would your experience say?
A: Apprentices grow alongside the business, developing technical expertise, adaptability, and a deep understanding of how the organisation operates. As responsibilities increase, they move quickly from learning fundamentals to delivering meaningful value. Investing in apprentices means developing loyal, capable professionals who bring fresh perspective and long-term commitment.
